My Fun A Day Story | Kelly Reilly

We are inspired and amazed every year by the variety of creativity and skills shown by the participants of Fun A Day Dundee! We’d like to celebrate that, and hopefully inspire you too, by sharing some previous participant stories ahead of Fun A Day 2021 (check out this page for links to previous participant stories, too). First up this year is Kelly Reilly, who you may know as @lovekellyreilly_bespokegifts over on instagram.

Hi Kelly! Please tell us a little about yourself and your creative work/hobbies…

Hello! I am lovekellyreilly_bespokegifts.
I began sewing a few years ago and now I create greetings cards, textile home decor and textile jewellery. A bit of this and a bit of that really., I’ll give most things a go.

How did you hear about Fun A Day Dundee?

A post popped up on my Instagram feed back in 2018 and I actually thought it was a perfect project for a friend. As I looked in to what it was I realised that you don’t have to be a “trained” anything to take part. So I ignored my nerves and sent my application in. Turns out there was no need to be nervous, the funaday team welcomed me (as they do with everyone who takes part) with open arms!

Please tell us a little about projects you’ve made as part of FADD in previous years…

2019 was my first year taking part and I had no idea what I was going to do, I chose fireworks as my theme but every day my piece of work was made on the hop with whatever I had lying around. I am a craft hoarder so I had a lot of stuff to use. I did plan my final piece, a tie-dye wall hanging with a firework burst decal.

2020 I chose quotes from my favourite 80’s movies and using different mediums I made small pieces of art.

What are your favourite things about FADD?

Fadd opens up your world to so many different types of creative. After joining the community I felt more comfortable trying new crafts and embracing my own style. The community is so supportive and feels like a big family.

What are you looking forward to about FAD2021?

2020 has been such an emotional and rollercoaster year. Taking part in Fadd 2021 will give us a bit of normality. It will also be interesting to see how eveyone’s projects reflect the past year or how people are using Fadd 2021 to move forward.I plan to use it to learn how to use watercolours properly.

We can’t wait to see what you make in 2021, Kelly!

If you’d like to see more of Kelly’s work, check out her instagram or folksy pages.

Join us in January 2021 and create every day!
