Caroline Simpson –
Online Exhibition Blog Post

We wanted to share the fun a bit further for our online exhibition, so we asked FADD participant; Caroline Simpson to share some information on her ‘little acts of crochet kindness’ project from January this year…

My Fun A Day project this year was called ‘Random Crochet Kindness’.
I left at least 31 small pieces of my crocheted makes in random places to be picked up by strangers and in the hope to put a little smile on their face! 🙂

My main aim was to hopefully bring a little cheer to what can be a pretty miserable month, but also to help motivate me to do something creative every day.  Each piece had a little note and included #Januaryfunfinds to encourage people to share their finds so I could see if they were indeed being found.
I added smiley faces to lots of them because well, smiles are contagious. 🙂

Most of them were hidden around Dundee, however a few made it further afield to Glasgow and afterwards I even sent a handful to my cousin in Canada who, along with her girls, then hid them around their local town.

I was so happy to hear from some of the people who discovered them, including someone who found one on their birthday! One person said it cheered her up to find it after her train had been delayed an hour. Another find even ended up on a wee trip to the Hello Robot exhibition at the V&A after being found by someone who was in Dundee for work that day.

I loved working on my project this year, and enjoy participating every January. This was my fourth year taking part in Fun A Day. I definitely recommend taking part as it provides just the right motivation and fun to take you through the long month of January, and to kick start the new year. I also love the community feel that comes from being part of it and the way in which everyone encourages and supports each other.
I’ve also made great links with lots of other creatives through being a part of this.
